Milano, Italy

Milan (Milano) is Northern Italy ‘s largest and Italy ‘s second largest city. It is the capital of Lombardy region. With an estimated population of over 1.3 million.  Milano is considered the economic capital  of Italy because it is the largest industrial center. It is also world famous for it’s fashion life and opera houses, the church which is home to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous fresco “The Last Supper”. The city was established by the Celts under the name of Medhlan. The Romans captured the city in 222 BC and named it Mediolanum. Milan became the capital of the Duchy of Milan after the fall of the Roman Empire. It’s economic prosperity dates back to the Dark Ages. Milan’s famous operahouse is the La Scala. Many famous operas had their debuts here like Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco and Turandot by Giacomo Puccini.

The major theater in Milan is Teatro degli Arcimboldi. The Piazza del Duomo or Cathedral Square is the heart of Milan and also the geometric the center of the dome which was dominated by a huge mass. The city also has several Roman relics. The San Lorenzo church is one of the few Byzantine influenced churches in Western Europe. The kitchen is well-known Italian dishes and restaurants in the region of Milan and a number of typical local specialties available.
